Lin-Sanity vs. Tebow-mania

Suddenly New York is swept up in Lin-Sanity. It has gone beyond the city, and may be sweeping the nation. As a matter of fact, it is spreading to other countries. When Jeremy Lin hit the game winner in Toronto, he got a standing ovation. That must be disheartening for the Raptors.

Lin has been praised by President Obama and the subject of David Letterman's Top Ten. Meanwhile Floyd Mayweather Jr. created his own controversy. He said that if Lin was African-American, he would just be another story. Long time NBA fans have heard those type of comments before, Isaiah Thomas made similar remarks about Larry Bird. These comments speak volumes about the person who says them more than they represent the situation.

What Lin-Sanity reminds me of a bit is Tebow-mania. And Lin in a recent press conference talked a little about God. He mentioned about all the things that had to happen for him to be where he is, and he mentioned that he thought of it as a miracle. It's not the bible-thumping of Tebow, but it is nice to see a positive story in a sports world that is becoming increasingly negative.
