Wanna Buy a Football field?

Ever wonder what it would be like to own your own football field? Well wonder no longer, because there is now one for sale to anyone with a big backyard.
Apparently, a practically new 81,900 square foot synthetic football field is up for sale on eBay. Stadium sold separately.
The field is being sold by Astro Turf for a minimum bid of $500,000. Astro Turf marketing director Todd Britton says that the field in questions is "the most modern system out there." I'm not sure how one would measure that type of thing, but apparently this field is made with 15,000 interlocking panels. Jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts rejoice.
The field was even used in real game action. It served as the playing field at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California for last month's Astro Turf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and also for the California high school state championship games in December. That's not exactly the Super Bowl turf, but what do you expect for something you can pick up on eBay?
The reason that the field is being sold on eBay is that David Beckham and his Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team play their home games at the Home Depot Center and Major League Soccer (MLS) rules require all games to be played on natural grass.
This field was the result of an Astro Turf-funded project at the University of Tennessee for the Center for Athletic Field Safety. The research involved tests conducted on 60 miniature fields. No word yet if they will also be available for purchase on eBay.
"We took the sod out [at the Home Depot Center], and laser-graded the field," Britton said. Each panel has 3,000 barbed hooks to hold it in place. Everybody told us it's the best synthetic field they have ever seen."
Shipping is included in the sale price but any field preparation is the responsibility of the buyer.
"I thought eBay has sold a little bit of everything, so why no a football field?" Britton said.
I would place a bid for the field myself, but I just checked and my backyard is just a little short of the space needed for an 81,900 square foot football field. Darn it.
