Has Green Bay Struck Gold at QB Again?
Written by Travis Pulver, Wednesday February 01 2012
There has been talk that the Green Bay Packers were considering placing the franchise tag on back-up quarterback Matt Flynn.
That’s right—the franchise tag on a player that rarely sees the field and has thrown for barely 1,000 yards.
If recent reports can be believed, sanity has won out ($14 million for a back-up?) and Flynn will not be getting the franchise tag placed on him. In all fairness, the idea was to do so and then trade him; the tag seemed to be the team’s way of letting the league know what they wanted in return for Flynn.
With the way that the former LSU QB has played—when he’s played—it’s understandable that they would want a lot. Late in the 2010 season he nearly led the Packers to a late season win over the New England Patriots. This season in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions he threw for 480 yards and six touchdowns, bith Green Bay single-game records.
He would he pretty tempting trade bait to a lot of teams, but then again, so was Kevin Kolb (and we all know how that worked out).
