Looking For The Non-Football Fans In Boston
Written by Christopher Corazon, Tuesday January 31 2012
WBZ in Boston broadcasts on the FM dial and the AM dial. The FM is a sports station while the AM has news all day and talk all night. Bradley Jay has a Sunday night show on WBZ. His problem this Sunday? He is on the AM side while the FM station will broadcast the Super Bowl.
Jay prepared for this on this past Sunday by trying to convince Bostonians that they should listen to his show and not the game. He changed the old adage of "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." His new adage was "the agony of defeat and the emptiness of victory." He tried to convince fans that, even when your team wins, you don't get anything, and what's even worse is that the season is over.
It remains to be seen how many people Jay convinced to listen to him instead of the game with Tom Brady. There is a precedent for WBZ to broadcast the game on the AM and the FM. They did that for the 7th game of the Stanley Cup Finals last June. Maybe that was because hockey fans never know if their game is on TV, and when it is, they don't know where to find it.
Football fans don't have that problem. They know what station to watch to see the Super Bowl. For those fans who want to hear the hometown announcers, they can tune in to the FM station. For anyone who does not fit those two groups, there's always Bradley Jay on the AM dial.
