Belichick Prepares For 5th Super Bowl
Written by Christopher Corazon, Thursday January 26 2012
Bill Belichick is getting ready for his 5th Super Bowl. The Patriots as an organization have been to 7, and they have never lost an AFC Championship game. In the Westwood One broadcast, they incorrectly stated that the Pats were 6-1 after their win over the Ravens.
Belichick (3-1) will join Tom Landry (2-3) as the only head coach in 5 Super Bowls. Only Don Shula has been to more with 6 (2-4). Even with a loss, he will have a better record than both of them. With a win, he will match the win total of Chuck Noll (4-0). Belichick is 2-1 as an assistant coach, having won twice with the Giants and lost with the Patriots in 1997.
Including Noll, there are five head coaches with four Super Bowl appearances. Only one (Dan Reeves) is not in the Hall of Fame. Landry and Shula are also in the Hall. Belichick is too busy thinking about the Giants to think about the Hall. But that discussion can begin another day.
