Did Indianapolis Learn Anything from the Dallas Seating Fiasco?
Written by Travis Pulver, Wednesday January 25 2012
Plans to add 5,000 seats to Lucas Oil Stadium for Super Bowl XLVI were announced recently. It makes perfect sense that the good folks in Indianapolis would want to add as many seats as they can. For some reason, fans are willing to pay and arm and a leg to see this one game--average ticket price so far is around $4000-- so why not maximize the stadium's profit potential, right?
There are a few hundred people who went to the game in Dallas last year that would say that is not such a good idea. Last season the good people in Dallas thought they'd do the same thing, but the seats were not ready on game day. Fans were essentially left out in the cold (the class-action suit is still pending).
Hopefully the planners in Indianapolis are smart enough to stay on top of whoever is in charge of these seats to make sure they are done on time. If not, the resulting backlash--especially since it happened last season--will be epic to say the least.
