La Russa to Manage N.L. All-Stars
Written by Nolan Thomas, Wednesday January 25 2012
Every year, the previous World Series managers have managed the next season’s All-Star squads for their respective league.
Former MLB manager Tony La Russa, who retired shortly after his St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series last season, will become the second retired manager to come out of retirement to lead an All-Star team.
Hall of Famer John McGraw is the only other retired manager to lead an All-Star team. He managed the first All-Star Game in 1933 after he retired following the 1932 season.
Commissioner Bud Selig announced the news on Tuesday and was thrilled that La Russa will be managing the National League in this year’s game.
This year’s game will be held on July 10 in Kansas City.
