Written by Nolan Thomas, Tuesday January 24 2012
Five-time New York Yankees All-Star catcher Jorge Posada announced his retirement from baseball on Tuesday. Pasada played for 17 years in the Major Leagues, all with the Yankees.
Posada was originally drafted as a second baseman in 1991 but was converted to catcher that same year.
Posada finishes up his career with a .273 career batting average, 275 home runs and 1,065 RBIs.
At the news conference to announce his retirement, Posada started his statement by quoting long time Yankee great Joe DiMaggio when he said: “I want to thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee.”
"I could never wear another uniform," Posada said. "I will forever be a Yankee."
Posada's became emotional and his voice cracked as he thanked his Yankees teammates while wiping away the tears in his eyes.
With Posada’s retirement, only Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera remain from the Yankees teams that won four World Series titles in five years from 1996-2000.
