Raiders Request to Interview Bears OC Tice for HC
Written by Nolan Thomas, Wednesday January 18 2012
The Oakland Raiders have requested and received permission for the Chicago Bears to interview recently promoted offensive coordinator Mike Tice for their open head coaching position.
If Tice were to actually receive an offer from the Raiders and become their next head coach, it would cause a huge ripple effect on the Bears and cause it to put a big dent into the team’s plans for 2012.
Tice was hired shortly after former OC Mike Martz decided not to come back and retired from coaching. This was the Bears plan all along and if Tice were now to leave to coach the Raiders, trying to get in another quality OC with Tice’s fundamentals and his knowledge of the players would be virtually impossible.
Especially with head coach Lovie Smith being on a hot seat with a new General Manager coming in, it is going to be playoffs or bust for this coaching staff this season. There are not too many candidates that would be interested in the OC job knowing it may only be a one-year deal.
It would be like sending them back to GO without collecting $200.
