Mike Martz to Retire
Written by Travis Pulver, Monday January 16 2012
The architect of the “Greatest Show on Turf” appears ready to take his game to the broadcast booth or his recliner at home. About two weeks after resigning his position as the offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears, Mike Martz is expected to retire.
His offense in Chicago wasn’t exactly great, but the Bears appeared to be on track until suffering season ending injuries to both quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte. Even at full strength, the Bears offense paled in comparison to what he had in St. Louis.
During his day with the St. Louis Rams the team racked up yardage and points (20,177 yards and 1,569 points from 1999-01) at an incredible rate with the help of superstars like Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, and Tory Holt.
There were rumors earlier in the season that the 60-year old Martz was considering a return to the college ranks, but those rumors were never substantiated.
