49ers Beat Saints With Last Second TD
Written by Nolan Thomas, Saturday January 14 2012
The San Francisco 49ers proved that you can win against the high powered offenses in the NFL with a stingy defense and a run first mentality on offense in a last second 36-32 win over the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.
The 49ers rushed for 142-yards and the defense had five takeaways with two interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
Three go-ahead touchdowns were scored in the last 2:11 of the game.
Quarterback Alex Smith scored on a 28 yard run with 2:11 left to go in the game, but then Drew Brees threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jimmy Graham with 1:37 left in the game to take a 32-29 lead.
Smith then lead the Niners 80-yards down the field capping off the winning drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass to tight end Vernon Davis with :09 left on the clock.
The 49ers will now play the winner the New York Giants-Green Bay Packers game on Sunday in the NFC Championship next Sunday.
