Agent Leigh Steinberg Files for Chapter 7
Written by Nolan Thomas, Thursday January 12 2012
Sports agent Leigh Steinberg, who was the inspiration for the movie “Jerry Maguire,” and who has represented some of the NFL’s biggest stars, has filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Steinberg became to be known as the first super agent and has struggled with alcohol for many years but has attended rehab and been sober since 2010.
The agent apparently is several millions of dollars in debt and he claims that he lost track while he was in rehab.
Because of his alcohol addiction Steinberg said that his judgment and oversight of his affairs were not consistent and at times impaired.
“I have lived with this in recent years,” Steinberg said, “and it is time to follow a more constructive path.”
Because of his debts prospective clients have shied away from hiring Steinberg.
Some of Steinberg’s clients included NFL star quarterbacks Troy Aikman, Warren Moon, Ben Roethlisberger and Steve Young.
