Not Winning In Washington

There's an old adage in sports. Washington was first in war, first in peace and last in the American League. These days, Washington is in the National League East. Still they managed to hold last place in that league, and the NFC East and just about every other league.
How bad is it? Last week the Washington Post ran an article in the sports section on the one local team that is "winning and exceeding expectations." The article was about the Maryland Women's Basketball team.

The Capitals have done well in the regular season, only to disappear in the playoffs. The Nationals were so bad in recent years that they got the number one pick two years in a row. There may be better days ahead, but for now, there is not much winning in Washington.
