The Old Celtics Are Like The Old Celtics
Written by Christopher Corazon, Thursday December 29 2011
The Boston Celtics opened the season against the Knicks, a team they had no problem with last year. They lost. Then they lost to the Miami Heat, which is fine because lots of teams are going to lose to the Heat. But after losing to New Orleans, it seems there might be a theme here.
The Celtics are old. Once I thought a shorter season might help them, now I'm thinking it might not make any difference. Sure there are reasons, for example Paul Pierce's heel has not healed. But it seems like the Celtics are going through what the old Celtics went through when the original Big Three got old.
You would think Danny Ainge would know better. He was part of those championship teams in the 1980s, and he was traded away while the original Big Three stayed together, grew old together, and became non-contenders together. Last year, Ainge traded away Kendrick Perkins, but has kept the new Big Three. Boston fans now can watch them grow old together. Just like old times.
