Cardinals Sign Carlos Beltran
Written by Nolan Thomas, Friday December 23 2011
The World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a two-year contract with outfielder Carlos Beltran. The $26 million deal will become official pending the results of a physical.
After losing Albert Pujols in free agency to the Los Angeles Angels the Cards needed a big bat for their lineup and Beltran fits the bill.
Last season the 34-year-old Beltran batted .300 with 22 home runs, 84 RBIs and a .385 on-base percentage while playing for the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants.
Beltran will most likely be the teams’ opening-day right fielder with Lance Berkman taking over Pujols spot at first base.
