Elway Endorses Tim Tebow As His QB

Tim Tebow has been winning over his critics throughout his entire life.  Now he seems to have won over the only person that matters right now, John Elway.

Elway is in charge of football operations for the Denver Broncos and previously seemed reluctant to wholeheartedly endorse "Tebow-mania".

After Tebow improved to 4-1 as a starter, Elway was asked during a radio interview if he thought Tebow was the team's long-term answer at quarterback.  Elway simply replied, "No."

Now Elway has changed his tune.  In an interview this week, Elway seemed to indicate that the Broncos wouldn't be drafting a quarterback in April and that Tebow could become the team's quarterback of the future.  "Tim Tebow's not going anywhere," Elway said.  "I mean, he's going to be a Bronco and we're going to do everything we can and hopefully he's that guy."

When reminded of his radio interview that was construed as criticism of Tebow, Elway responded, "I think that comment was probably a bit too blunt.  Because I think the big picture with Tim is we've got to see the whole body of work.  And so really what you want to see with him is the improvement that's going to happen over time.  Because he's done what we knew he could do and where we've seen progress is what he does within the pocket.  What we've said, and I said it when I first got here, was we know Tim's a great player and what we've got to do is make him a great quarterback, and what I've learned is you've got to be able to win from within the pocket."

Elway said that Tebow's famous work ethic has helped him get better each time he steps on the field.  He said that the more experience Tebow gets, the more offensive coordinator Mike McCoy adds to the playbook for Tebow to work with.

"We want it to happen because of the competitor he is and what type of person he is and how he represents not only himself but represents the Broncos and the city," Elway said.  "People have been watching him, so he's a draw.  But that's where some time in the offseason (helps) and it comes down to timing and throwing."

The Hall of Fame Bronco, said he would personally work with Tebow during the offseason to help him hone his craft.  It is the best interest of not only Elway, but of the entire Broncos organization that Tebow succeed.

"Do I think he'll get there?"  Elway said.  "Yeah, I do."
