Keep Changing Your Sox
Written by Christopher Corazon, Thursday December 15 2011
Long ago, there was an ad in Boston to "keep your Sox on TV38". This would be hard for me these days because A) I rarely wear socks and B) the Sox keep on changing.
I suppose it was inevitable. The local 9 in Boston went through the worst collapse possible in September. The manager was gone. The GM was gone. And now, it seems the captain will be gone as well.
The Red Sox have been making many changes, and recently they acquired a new backup catcher. That probably means the end for Captain Jason Varitek. He was a part of both recent World Series winners, one of only 8 players to do so. He caught 4 no hitters, the only player to do so. He will be missed, perhaps more than the Red Sox could possibly know.
I heard it was hard to see Bobby Orr in a Chicago uniform. Dwight Evans never looked right as a Baltimore Oriole. Varitek will be changing his Sox. It's just not right.
