Marlins offer Pujols 10-Year Deal
Written by Nolan Thomas, Tuesday December 06 2011
The Miami Marlins have reportedly increased their original offer to first baseman Albert Pujols by making it a 10-year deal and adding more dollars to the original $22 million a year offer.
The Marlins have definitely opened up their check books this offseason in an attempt to buy a championship. They have already reached a preliminary agreement with infielder Jose Reyes on a $106 million sex year deal and have completed a three-year $27 million deal with closer Heath Bell.
After hearing the latest offer to Pujols you would think it would be a no brainer, but the three-time National League MVP reportedly wants a no-trade clause for the first five years of the deal and the Marlins policy is to not give no-trade deals on multi-year contracts.
Other teams reportedly pursuing Pujols are the St. Louis Cardinals, who he has spent his entire 11-year career with, and the Chicago Cubs, who met with his agent Dan Lozano on Monday, have supposedly submitted a bid for him as well.
