Will Texans/Cowboys Become the Next Big Rivalry in Texas?
Written by Travis Pulver, Tuesday December 06 2011
Now that the Texas/Texas A&M rivalry appears to be done for the near future football fans in the gridiron-crazy state need another rivalry for families to separate over. They may get it in the form of the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys.
Since the Texans have entered the league they simply haven’t been that good. If it is too likely that one team is going to win, it’s kind of hard for a rivalry to materialize. Now that the Texans appear to be contenders as much if not more so than the Cowboys that could all change.
Evidence of that may have happened on Sunday when FOX stations in Austin and San Antonio cut away from the end of the Texans/Falcons game—one which was very competitive and did go down to the last couple plays—so that they could show the beginning of the Cowboys/Cardinals game.
The station defended its decision by saying that the Cowboys simply get better ratings. If they continue to lose to teams like the lowly Cardinals and the Texans win with their 3rd string QB that could all change very soon.
