Cubs Ron Santo Finally Makes Hall of Fame
Written by Nolan Thomas, Monday December 05 2011
Former Chicago Cubs third baseman Ron Santo has finally made it to the Hall of Fame.
Sadly after years and years of hearing the disappointing news that he had not been elected into the Hall, Santo was voted in after he passed away just over a year ago on Dec. 3, 2010 at age 70.
Santo died due to complications of bladder cancer and had diabetes, which cost him both of his legs below the knees.
So while Santo himself is not here to realize his dream come true, his family is truly enjoying the news.
Santo will be joining former Cubs teammates Ernie Banks, Ferguson Jenkins and Billy Williams in the Hall.
“This is a great day for baseball and for Cubs fans everywhere,” Commissioner Bud Selig said. “Ron was a staple of the Cubs’ experience every single day for decades.”
Santo was a nine-time All-Star who hit 342 home runs, won five Gold Gloves and was a Cubs radio broadcaster for twenty years.
