Red Sox Took Their Time
Written by Christopher Corazon, Wednesday November 30 2011
The Red Sox parted ways with Terry Francona at the start of October. They hired Bobby Valentine at the end of November. The entire process took about 61 days.
In other words, if they had just waited another 11 days, the process would have been longer than Kris and Kim's marriage. Now obviously, the marriage was a joke without a punchline. But the decision to hire a manager should not take almost as long as a celebrity marriage.
Valentine has experience in the majors with the Rangers and the Mets. Lately, he has worked for ESPN and was currently in Japan. Did it take the Sox two months to figure out this was their guy? Almost the same amount of time for dim Kim to realize life is not a reality show?
Yes there were other factors. There was the announcement that Dale Sveum was the choice before he went with former Boston GM Theo Epstein to Chicago. As a Sox fan, I hope Valentine really is the guy the Sox wanted. I just wonder what took so long in hiring a replacement for a job that was available for two months.
