Lawrence Taylor Being Sued by Prostitute
Written by Bob Whalon, Monday November 28 2011
Former NFL player Lawrence Taylor is being sued by the teenage girl who he admitted to having sex with earlier this year.
Taylor was previously sentenced to six years' probation under a deal in which he pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute. That prostitute, Christina Fierro, filed a civil suit in federal court in New York on Monday. Fierro is seeking compensatory and punitive damages to be determined at trial.
"I feel as though he should be accountable for his crimes and misconduct towards me," Fierro said at a news conference on Monday. Fierro is being represented by lawyer Gloria Allred who always seems to show up when wealthy athletes are being sued. Allred said that she believed that this was the first time the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Act had been used to sue a buyer of commercial sex.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer was initially charged with third-degree rape, among other counts in May 2010. At the time of the incident, Fierro was only 16 years old.
Part of the criminal case led to Fierro's pimp, Rasheed Davis, being sentenced to seven years in prison in August after he plead guilty to transporting a minor for paid sex. Davis is not being sued by Fierro. That is obviously because he isn't as wealthy as Taylor, even though the publicity-starved Allred wouldn't comment on why only Taylor is being sued by Fierro.
Taylor did not know that Fierro was underage at the time the crime occurred, which is why he was allowed to plead to a lesser charge and received probation. Taylor also had to register as a sex offender under the terms of the plea agreement.
Victims in sexual assault cases are normally not published unless they agree to be named or identify themselves publicly as Fierro has done with her lawsuit.
Taylor's lawyer, Arthur Aidala, said in a statement that because of the suit, Taylor and other witnesses, "will have to reveal the rather disparaging truth about Ms. Fierro."
No trial date has been set.
