MLB Keeps Labor Peace, Astros to Join AL
Written by Christopher Corazon, Thursday November 24 2011
Major League Baseball announced they have a labor agreement for the next five years. While labor problems threatened the NFL season and have damaged the NBA season, MLB will have no interruptions in the off-season.
In 1994, the player strike cancelled the end of the regular season, the playoffs, the World Series and the start of the 1995 season. The Montreal Expos never recovered. The Toronto Blue Jays, who won in 1992 and 1993, would not be the same again. The home run chase in 1998, fueled by steroids, helped to bring baseball back.
The off-season for the NFL in 2011 was very different. The NBA has not been able to get things going. Baseball at least will be able to continue. As part of the deal, the Astros will be joining the AL and there will be interleague all season starting in 2013.
