Clemson Comes Back Again Wins ACC Atlantic
Written by Nolan Thomas, Saturday November 12 2011
Clemson came back once again for another victory to defeat Wake Forest 31-28 and clinch the Atlantic division of the ACC.
Down by 14 points late in the third quarter, Clemson once again rallied back in the fourth to tie the game and won it on a 43-yard field goal by Chandler Catanzaro on the last play of the game.
After trailing 14-7 at the half, Wake Forest scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to take the two touchdown lead.
Up until that point, Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd was having a rough game as he threw two interceptions, but bounced back with two touchdown passes to tie the game at 6:05 of the fourth quarter.
In addition, Clemson came back without the services of star freshman receiver Sammy Watkins who was out for the majority of the fourth quarter due to a shoulder injury.
Running back Andre Ellington scored the two first half touchdowns while rushing for 98 yards.
Running back Brandon Pendergrass rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns for Wake Forest.
This game had huge ACC Atlantic ramifications as with a win this week and a win next week over Maryland, Wake Forest would have clinched the Atlantic division and a shot in the ACC championship game.
