Is David Ortiz On The Move?
Written by Christopher Corazon, Friday November 04 2011
Big Papi's Grille, a steak house with a Dominican flair owned by David Ortiz, is gone. The question for fans in Boston is: will the DH soon be gone too?
Recently, Ortiz won the silver slugger award along with teammates Jacoby Ellsbury and Adrian Gonzalez. Ortiz is one of eight players that played on both the championships in 2004 and 2007. Ortiz has been the heart and soul of the team.
But times are certainly changing in Boston. Terry Francona is gone, and so is Theo Epstein. Four of those eight teammates who were on both championships are gone. Two others, Tim Wakefield and Jason Varitek, are also free agents.
Early in the off season, Ortiz made a comment about the drama that surrounded the Red Sox collapse. He mentioned something about playing for the Yankees, where the atmosphere is more "professional".
Long time Sox fans are not surprised by some of the headlines in Boston lately. There was a time, year after year, the Red Sox would create new ways to lose with flair. It just hasn't happened in a while. That was more like the Sox before Ortiz.
