Bubba Smith died of Drug Intoxication
Bubba Smith, the former NFL player-turned-actor apparently died of acute drug intoxication and a heart condition according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
The autopsy results showed that Smith had high levels of the weight-loss drug phentermine in his system as well as an enlarged heart and up to 75 percent blockage of some of his blood vessels.
Smith’s body was found by a caretaker at his home in Baldwin Hills on Aug. 3. He was 66 years old.
Smith was the top overall pick by the Baltimore Colts in the 1967 NFL draft after playing at Michigan State. He spent five seasons with the Colts and two seasons each with the Oakland Raiders and Houston Oilers.
