Cubs Fire Manager, Sandberg not a Candidate
Written by Nolan Thomas, Wednesday November 02 2011
Chicago Cubs new president of baseball operations Theo Epstein fired manager Mike Quade on Wednesday and his comments immediately took former Cub and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg out of contention to replace him.
Epstein said in a statement that the next Cubs manager “must have managerial or coaching experience at the major league level,” which leaves Sandberg out of the picture since the highest level he has managed is at triple-A, and he has not coached in the major league at any level.
Former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona is most likely at the top of Epstein's list to replace Quade.
Quade managed over 2,300 minor league games in the Montreal, Philadelphia, Oakland and the Cubs farm systems before managing the Cubs last season.
