Congressman compares NCAA to Mafia

After hearing about ill treatment by schools after athletes were injured from the mothers of those athletes, Illinois congressman Bobby Rush compared the NCAA to Al Capone and the Mafia.

Rush believes that the NCAA controls the lives of student athletes and made the comments at a congressional forum on college sports put together to view the impact of "back-room deals, payoffs and scandals" in college sports.

Rush might have a point here. After all, college athletes are constantly under scrutiny and have strict rules to follow at all times. If they break the rules, even only a little bit like say, except lunch from a booster, their eligibility gets wacked.

Capone is quoted as saying "I have built my organization upon fear," and it definitely can describe some of the NCAA’s rules towards their athletes who if caught even getting a ride, a free meal, or talking to someone they shouldn’t, their scholarships get the kiss of death.
