Déjà vu for Matt Hasselbeck
Written by Travis Pulver, Monday October 31 2011
It wasn’t that long ago that Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had the benefit of having one of the best backs in the NFL in his backfield, Shaun Alexander.
His Seahawk teammate peaked in 2005 when he won the NFL MVP award after running for 1,880 yards and 28 touchdowns. He got what was considered a much deserved contract in 2006, was cut after the ’07 season, and was out of football by ’08.
Chris Johnson finally got paid after having three stellar years to start his career, but has failed to deliver in ’11 having gone over 100 yards just once and 50 twice.
“I definitely see a lot of similarity in (Johnson and Alexander), in terms of when you’re so successful and produce in such a major way…people are just expecting it to happen. There’s a lot that goes into it. It’s hard to be that elite all the time."
That leads to the next question—like Alexander was in the year after he got his big contract, is C2K hurt?
