Cardinals Eliminate Brewers. Again.
Written by Christopher Corazon, Tuesday October 18 2011
The St. Louis Cardinals are going back to the World Series. Again.
The Cardinals defeated the Brewers in game 6 to take the NLCS 4-2. For St. Louis, this is their third trip since 2004, the most World Series appearences of any team in that time frame. They lost to the Red Sox in 2004, but returned in 2006 and beat the Tigers. The Cardinals have won it all 10 times, and in St. Louis the chant is "11 in '11".
In order to get that goal, they will have to beat the Rangers, who are making a return trip to the Fall Classic. They eliminated the Tigers in the ALCS, also by a 4-2 margin. Last year, Texas lost to the Giants in the World Series. The old Rangers never won a playoff round, and were facing bankruptcy in 2010. Suddenly, with new ownership, they are the winners of the American League two years in a row.
For the Brewers, it marks the end of their most successful year since joining the National League. They had the most home wins in MLB. They made it farther in the playoffs than they had since 1982, the year they lost the World Series to St. Louis.
