Final Days of the Rays?
Written by Daniel Turner, Wednesday October 12 2011
If success breeds ticket sales then the Rays are the exception. Even though they reached the post season three of the last four years they continue to see attendance decline, including this year when they sold 300K less seats than 2010; with their two home Wild Card games averaging 30K.
Even with a $42 million payroll they are losing money and may not be able to re-sign James Shields or Johnny Damon.
Their future is bleak and owner Stuart Sternberg says he either expects to sell or have MLB “vaporize” the franchise.
