MLB Playoff Schedule Misses Mark
Written by Christopher Corazon, Wednesday October 05 2011
Yesterday was an exciting day in MLB postseason. 4 games in one day. The Rangers eliminated the Rays 3 games to 1. The Phillies took a 2-1 lead in their series against the Cardinals. The Yankees forced a fifth game against the Tigers. Finally the Diamondbacks avoided a sweep to the Brewers.
All of this action on a......Tuesday.
MLB is trying a new format where the regular season ended mid week and the playoffs started on Friday. The problem is that there are series deciding games in the middle of the week. There are days with multiple games, and important games, in the middle of the week. It was impossible to watch all of the action, unless you do not work in the middle of Tuesday afternoon and you have picture in picture for the night games.
If MLB backed up there schedule two days, this action would happen on a Sunday. Oh no, MLB would have to compete with the NFL! If they backed it up three days, the excitement would be on Saturday. Perish the thought, MLB would have to compete with college football. MLB has to reach the conclusion that they can compete with playoffs against regular season. They won't get every fan, but they will get their fans, and they won't have to hide their games on Tuesday.
