Rays Continue To Roll
Written by Christopher Corazon, Saturday October 01 2011
The Tampa Bay Rays are clearly on a roll. While fans in Boston lament one of the most historic collapses in history, the other side of the story is the Rays team that forced their way back into contention. They won the division on the last day of the season, and earned the Wild card playoff spot.
The result was a trip to Texas to take on the second seed in the American League. The Rangers won the AL pennant last year. But on Friday night, it was all Tampa as the Rays won game 1, shutting out their hosts 9-0.
There are some Red Sox fans who feel like the Yankees did not try to win in Tampa in the final series, resting some key players. By contrast, the Phillies prepared for the playoffs by winning three over the Atlanta Braves and eliminating another team that had a horrible collapse in September. The Yankees might regret letting the Rays into the playoffs. Right now, they are on a roll.
