Former Tackle Orlando Brown Found Dead
Written by Travis Pulver, Friday September 23 2011
It might pay to be in the NFL, but these days it does not seem to bode well for one’s life expectancy.
The Baltimore Ravens confirmed the news Friday that former offensive tackle Orlando Brown had been found dead in his Baltimore condominium. Brown was just 40 years old. No cause of death has been announced yet.
"We just found out before the end of practice," Harry Swayne, director of player development for the Ravens said on Friday. "We were close friends. It's tough, it's tough. I talked to him a month ago and told him, 'Zeus [as Borwn was known], you didn't have to block half the people you played against because they were scared of you.'”
The 6-foot 7-inch Brown was signed by the Cleveland Browns out of South Carolina State in 1993 as an undrafted free agent. He gained some unwanted notoriety after getting hit in the eye with a flag by referee Jeff Triplette during a game in 1999.
Brown was suspended for shoving Triplette until it was discovered that he had suffered temporary blindness in his eye due to the flag.
