Panthers Lose Another Linebacker for Season
The Carolina Panthers lost another starting linebacker for the season after Thomas Davis tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the third quarter of the 30-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
It is another huge blow to the Panthers defense, which lost Jon Beason for the year in the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals after tearing his Achilles.
This is the third time in less then two years that Davis has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Coach Ron Rivera said Monday that it is “disappointing news” for Davis, who has been placed on injured reserve.
Rivera was not sure who will take the place of Davis and said that “Somebody is going to have to step up. This may be a situation where it may be by committee.”
The Panthers claimed linebacker Jason Phillips off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens on Monday. Phillips played in nine games last season with the Ravens and had five tackles.
