Raiders Janikowski Ties Field Goal Record [VIDEO]
Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski kicked a record tying 63-yard field goal as the first half expired against the Denver Broncos Monday night. The historic kick helped the Raiders beat the Broncos 23-20.
Janikowski tied Tom Dempsey, who kicked a 63-yarder in 1970 for the Saints which was matched by Jason Elam for the Broncos in 1998 at the old Mile High Stadium.
The Raiders kick just made it over the crossbar near the left upright giving his team a 16-3 lead at the half. He also made field goals from 37 and 21 yards on the night.
“To be honest, I didn’t hit it that good,” said Janikowski. “It barely got over the bar.”
“I wanted to be 10 years in the league, break the record or tie the record and I want to win a Super Bowl,” Janikowski said. “Those are my three goals. I’ve got two out of three.”
The Raiders other kicker, punter Shane Lechler, also added a record tying boot when he had a 77-yard punt in the fourth quarter, tying a team record set by Wayne Crow a half century ago.
