David Garard Loses his Job in the Same Way He Got It
Written by Travis Pulver, Tuesday September 06 2011
As the 2007 preseason came to a close, it appeared that all was going to be back to normal with Byron Leftwich the starting quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Than after the final preseason game the team cut Leftwich and inserted David Garrard as the new starter.
Four years later Garrard is getting the same treatment.
The Jaguars announced on Tuesday that the team was letting go of their starting quarterback. No reason was given for the cut and it is unclear as to why the team decided to make the move at this time.
Garrard’s salary was not ridiculously large and with Peyton Manning due to miss time for the Colts, the AFC South is wide open. Having an experienced quarterback behind center could not be more important.
It looks as if the team will be going with rookie Blaine Gabbert sometime in the near future, but for now they will be starting 30-year old journeyman Luke McCown.
