Titans Cut the Smartest Player on the Team

This is not to say that they cut the smartest football player on the team; just the smartest guy. I’m talking about defensive back Myron Rolle of course.

Rolle was a talented defensive back at Florida State that gave up a year of football to study at Oxford University after being named a Rhodes Scholar. When he returned to the states he entered the draft and was eventually taken with the last pick in the sixth round by the Tennessee Titans.

Had Rolle never have gone to Oxford to study he would have likely been a third-fourth round pick, but since he had many teams questioned his commitment to the game of football. Tennessee decided to take a chance on him and eventually signed him to the practice squad.

Not all good college players make good professional ones though. Rolle could still get picked up by someone else, but a guy as smart as him might also know it’s time to go put that medical anthropology degree to good use.
