Braves Don’t Want the Wild Card
Written by Daniel Turner, Thursday August 25 2011
Atlanta’s six game win streak came to an end on Wednesday night at the hands of the lowly Cubs, but the Braves remained as upbeat as if they were one game away from sweeping the series. Manager Fredi Gonzalez praised starter Derek Lowe stating the loss may have been his best start of the year. Far from faint praise since the Cubs did all of their damage in the second inning for a 3-2 win.
Lowe was even more philosophical saying the loss was not that important since the Braves must keep their eyes on catching the Phillies who currently have a 6.5 game lead in the NL East. Yes, even as people are attempting to hand the Braves the Wild Card postseason bid, Atlanta continues to say it is a division title they seek.
With six games still remaining between Atlanta and Philadelphia, confidence and the ability to dent the Phillies daunting rotation could boost the Braves to the title they seek.
