Jerry Richardson Lays Down the Law for Cam Newton
Written by Travis Pulver, Thursday August 25 2011
There was a day when players showed up to games wearing sport coats and ties, looked all prim and proper, and said real sweet things to the cameras. They might have acted wild and crazy off camera, but at least when it came to the product presented to the public they looked what most people would call “nice.”
If Jerry Richardson had his way, the old way would still be the way.
While appearing on the PBS show ‘Charlie Rose,’ Richardson talked about a pre-draft meeting he had with his future quarterback, Cam Newton. Basically, he asked Newton if he had any piercings or tattoos. Newton said he didn’t and Richardson responded with:
“We want to keep no tattoos, no piercings, and I think you’ve got a very nice haircut.”
That may not make sense with recent signings like Jeremy Shockey, but Shockey is not going to be the face of the team. Cam Newton is.
It would appear that Newton does not have any intention of getting either, but it would be interesting to see what Richardson would do if he did.
