Mets Return to Form
Written by Daniel Turner, Tuesday August 23 2011
The Mets were 5-13 when owner Fred Wilpon equated them to something that we expel and flush. After last night’s 10-0 spanking by Cliff Lee and the Phillies they have slipped to 60-67 and could drop to eight games below .500; just like they were when Wilpon proclaimed them crap.
David Wright, the guy Wilpon called average, held a closed door meeting with Terry Collins to voice his dismay over the Amazing Mets performance. He told the press that his team mates must perform down the stretch and they should remember they are playing for their jobs. Whether that statement will fall on deaf ears remains to be seen since most of the Mets were quick to praise the Phillies and seem more content to watch them go to the World Series than consider playing the role of a spoiler.
As the Mets continue their freefall the Phillies are on track to win 105 games. Having five more with the Mets gets them even closer to a 100+ win season.
