Dan Uggla's Streak
Written by Christopher Corazon, Wednesday August 10 2011
Dan Uggla went 1 for 6 as the Braves beat the Marlins. That one hit extended Uggla's hitting streak to 30 games. That ties Andre Ethier for the longest streak of the season. There are very few players who have hit in 30 consecutive games, and many of them date back to the late 19th century. If Uggla continues his streak to 31, he will be in an even smaller group, only 28 players have hit in 31 games or more.
However, what makes Uggla's streak even more interesting is that he was struggling before the streak started. His batting average was below .200 when the streak began. He was at .173. During the streak he has hit at a .339 clip (41 for 129), and it has raised his average to .220.
Meanwhile, the Braves are hopeful to make it back to the playoffs with Uggla batting cleanup. They trail the Phillies by 8.5 games, but lead in the wildcard standings. Arizona is 4.5 games behind Atlanta, with the Cardinals 5.5 games back.
