Tiger Woods Practices Pain Free
Written by Bob Whalon, Wednesday August 03 2011
Tiger Woods played a nine-hole practice round on Tuesday and announced that his left leg is fully healed. "It feels solid, it feel stable, no pain," Woods said after his round on Tuesday at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
Woods has been hampered by knee and Achilles injuries he suffered at the Masters in April. Apparently that is behind him now.
Another thing he wanted to put behind him is his former caddie, Steve Williams.
"I felt it was time for a change," Woods said of the decision to fire Williams in July. Williams was Tiger's caddie for 13 of his 14 major championships. "Steve and I have had an amazing run. He's helped me with my career, and I think I've helped his career as well."
Woods will have his childhood friend Bryon Bell as his caddie at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday and at next week's PGA Championship as well. But he will look for a more experienced permanent caddie after that.
Bridgestone will be the first time Woods has played since May, when he withdrew from the Players Championship after nine holes. He said he has been able to chip and putt for several weeks, but has only been able to hit full shots the last two or three weeks. "I've been hitting it more solidly and flush than I have in the past," Woods said.
Woods hasn't won a PGA Tour event in almost two years and has fallen from No. 1 to No. 28 in the world rankings. When asked of the expectations about his return, Woods kept it simple. "I'm just focused on trying to win a golf tournament, that's it."
