North Carolina Fires Butch Davis
The University of North Carolina announced Wednesday evening that Butch Davis has been dismissed as head coach of the schools football program.
Davis was apparently fired as a result of the cumulative damage to the University's reputation over the past year and not related to any change in the current NCAA investigation.
"Athletics and football are an important part of this University, and a successful football program is essential to the overall health of our athletic program," said North Carolina Chancellor Holden Thorp. "That's why we have to put this behind us and move forward."
