Karl Watson Gives Back With Hood Games 33
Written by Daniel Turner, Wednesday July 27 2011
Venture Trucks Karl Watson knows that most skaters won’t get to medal at the X Games. Hell, most of them won’t make a dime out of being able to rip and grind. Still, he knows how much fun he’s had skating and that it has enriched his life. That’s why he sponsors a contest in San Francisco that allows intercity shredders to show their stuff and maybe pull down a prize.
Last Saturday at the African American Community Complex, Watson staged Hood Games 33 with the help of team mates Nyjah Huston and Walker Ryan. The event is open to urban communities and gives the kids a chance to both show off their stuff and hang with the featured skaters. Watson upped the ante this year by giving away a scholarship to Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania to train with kids who could be getting a shot at the X Games.
A lot of people may talk it, but Watson truly represents the Hood.
