Hopkins Says Haye Was a Flop
Written by Daniel Turner, Tuesday July 26 2011
Bernard Hopkins was looking forward to David Haye's bout with Wladimir Klitschko on July 2. According to Hopkins both Klitschko brothers are over rated and he saw Hayes as the man capable of taking them. However, watching Hayes continually drop to his knees when he and Klitschko clinched he realized that Hayes was not the man for the job. Or, as he told the Daily Mail of London, he hates to question the heart of a fighter, but he suspects that Haye felt over matched and was trying to have Klitschko disqualified; a move which only made Haye look pathetic.
Hopkins has a chance to take on another Emanuel Stewart trained fighter when he faces off against Chad Dawson in October in a match scheduled in Newark, NJ. Stewart has tinkered with Dawson far more than Klitschko and the results could make a difficult evening for Hopkins.
Dawson’s jab, boxing skills and defense could make him a tougher opponent than Jean Pascal and he beat Hopkins twice.
