Another Challenge for Abby Wambach
Written by Daniel Turner, Friday July 22 2011
On Sunday Abby Wambach was searching for words to explain how Japan bested U.S.A. for the World Cup only minutes after she converted the team’s only successful penalty kick. Getting the upset in perspective appeared to be her biggest challenge for awhile. Today Wambach has been named the new head coach of the Women’s Professional Soccer league magicJack. This could prove to be an even tougher challenge since several magicJack players have filed a grievance against recently deposed coach and still owner Dan Borislow.
Borislow has been accused of intimidating players and threatening them both verbally and through e-mail. The WPS has banned Borislow from appearing on the sidelines of any of their matches, but he still remains the team’s owner. Borislow took on coaching duties after reassigning coach Mike Lyons.
While remaining unapologetic for his behavior Borislow does say that Wambach will be a brilliant player coach. Since several of her WNT mates play for the magicJack she could lead the troubled team to the playoffs.
