Braves Shopping For Bullpen Help
Written by Daniel Turner, Thursday July 21 2011
Atlanta has some impressive young arms in its rotation, but the bullpen is starting to show some cracks that could leave them sucking the Phillies phumes. Their struggles in their series against Colorado demonstrate their need for effective relief help. The question is how desperate they are and what they are willing to part with to obtain another right arm.
Eric O’Flaherty and Jonny Venters have been the set up men, but even O’Flaherty came up short against the Rockies and there could be fear that they will tire these two out down the stretch. That’s why they are still coveting the Padres Mike Adams, but they may play it closer to the vest and the wallet and wait until after the trade deadline to see what the treats the waiver wire holds.
If George Sherrill and Scott Linebrink can maintain consistency the Braves could wait to see what falls from the waivers tree without having to invest heavily in late season help.
