David Wright Is a Star for the Other Mets
Written by Daniel Turner, Monday July 18 2011
When Fred Wilpon tore into his team in May his assessment of David Wright was that he is a good kid and an OK player, but not a superstar. Well, Wright had a big day yesterday for the Mets, but it was the Port St. Lucie team.
Wright, who is rehabbing from a stress fracture in his lower back since mid May, was busy writhing in pain when Wilpon critiqued his talents, but he is attempting to get back to the big team and perhaps contribute his less than superstar talents to trying to catch up to the Phillies.
As a 20 year old Wright played a full season with the Port St. Lucie Mets and hit .270 with 15 home runs. Proving that if he can’t produce the superstar numbers for which he is being paid by the Mets, he can wow them at the Florida State League level.
