Rashard Evans Found an Opponent

“Suga” Evans was set to take on Jon Jones for the Light Heavyweight title when the match was canceled because of an injury to Jones. With no hopes of capturing the title Evans was set to fight Phil Davis in the headliner of UFC 133 but he had to withdraw when he, too, became injured. Evans probably felt that no one wanted to share the octagon with him in Philly until Dana White sent out a tweet yesterday telling the Wells Fargo Center to get ready to host Evans vs. Tito Ortiz in a rematch of their July ’07 fight that ended in a draw.

Since then Evans and Ortiz’ careers have gone in different directions. Evans has gone 5-1 including a title win over Forrest Griffin which he later lost to Lyoto Machida. Ortiz has gone 0-3 since the first fight, so even though he reluctantly agreed to the rematch on short notice, he could revive his career with a victory.

A win for Evans should give him another shot at winning a title.
